Introduction: This is a repeat of quotes recently published in IslamWatch with the addition of new quotes. I have added many worthy quotes, which valued readers of IslamWatch have added in comments and credit goes to them.

But first, I would like to ask the reader to join me in a good laugh. Please have a look at the picture below. It was taken in a specific conference held in Saudi Arabia last year. There is not a single woman in sight. And notice the title of the conference. This is Islam – one laughable religion.

Worthy Quotes on Islam, I

Ibn Kammuna

In this posting, I provide some worthy quotes of wise non-Muslims, and back up their worthiness with quotes of famous Muslims.

Quotes of wise infidels

1) Winston Churchill:

[Forenote: Sir Winston Churchill has been recognized as one of the greatest men of the late nineteenth and of the twentieth century. He was an extraordinary war leader to whom the Western World must be forever in debt. He was a prophet in his own time as this quotation, written well over 100 years ago, demonstrates.]

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step, and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it (Islam) has vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.”

[Sir Winston, as an officer of the British Army, served in the Sudan and in the Crimean War; in both instances against the Muslims. These experiences gave him ample opportunity to observe the structure of Islamic society.(2) Churchill’s quotes were taken from the volume: Sir Winston Churchill; “The River War”, first edition, II:248-250, published by Longmans, Green & Company, 1899.(3)

If Sir Winston were alive today, it is doubtful that a person in Great Britain criticizing Islam publicly could be arrested, and then fined or jailed, and even more doubtful that any Muslims would be sitting in the English Parliament!]

2) James Bissett (2002), ex-Ambassador of Canada to Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Albania.

"It is common knowledge that Saudi Arabia is the most extremist of the Muslim States. It finances the infamous Madrassas (schools) that preach a litany of hate and turn out thousands of fanatical Islamic zealots. It indirectly provides the funding and its’ citizens provide most of the fighters for Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda organization. It supports, financially and by other means, the Palestinian terrorists and other Muslim anti-Western groups throughout the world."

3) M. J. Haipur (c. 1998):

“A religion, as a man, must be judged by the fruits of having existed; what has Islam given to our world, except genocide, slavery, and denigration of the human spirit?"

4) Edourd T. Nelosni (2003):

"Islam is, to the body politic of the world, as a festering pus-filled carbuncle is to the backside of a human being."

5) Alexis de Tocqueville (c. 1790):

"I studied the Koran a great deal. I came away from that study with the conviction that by and large there have been few religions in the world as deadly to men as that of Muhammad. As far as I can see, it is the principal cause of the decadence so visible today in the Muslim world, and, though less absurd than the polytheism of old, its social and political tendencies are in my opinion infinitely more to be feared, and I therefore regard it as a form of decadence rather than a form of progress in relation to paganism itself."

6) Julie Burchill (1991) of Britain’s The Guardian newspaper, after the 9/11 terrorist attacks:

"The terrorist attacks were a tragedy for the people who died or were injured, and for their families and friends. For the rest of us, they were a wake-up call as to what type of lunatics we are dealing with. And sleepwalking our way back into ill-sorted, dewy-eyed people personal politics is the last thing we need to set us up for the fight ahead. Come on you liberals, don’t give me the morbid pleasure of saying, ‘I told you so’ again."

7) Catholic Encyclopedia (1908)

"In matters political, Islam is a system of despotism at home and aggression abroad… The rights of non-Moslem subjects are of the vaguest and most limited kind, and a religious war is a sacred duty whenever there is a chance of success against the "Infidel". Medieval and Modern Mohammedan, especially Turkish, persecutions of both Jews and Christians are perhaps the best illustration of this fanatical religious and political spirit."

8) William Muir (c. 1903)

"The sword of Muhammad and the Qur’an (Koran) are the most fatal enemies of civilization, truth, and liberty which the world has yet known."

9) Franklin Graham (2002)

"Islam is an evil and wicked religion."

10) David Pryce-Jones (1997)

"Democracy sometimes appears paralyzed by those who take advantage of its freedoms in order to abuse them for undemocratic ends."

11) Oriana Fallaci

“The Muslims refuse our culture and try to impose their culture on us. I reject them, and this is not only my duty toward my culture-it is toward my values, my principles, my civilization.”

“I am an atheist, and if an atheist and a pope think the same things, there must be something true. There must be some human truth that is beyond religion.”

12) C.O. Jones (2001) - after 9/11.

"Evil exists, and the worst evil of all, is that practiced in the name of religion."

13)  Marco Polo (World Traveler)

“The law which their prophet Mohamed has given to Muslims is that any harm done to anyone who does not accept their law and any appropriation of his goods, is no sin at all.”

14) Kamal Ataturk (Founder of Modern Turkey)

He is a weak ruler who needs religion to uphold his government; it is as if he would catch his people in a trap. My people are going to learn the principles of democracy, the dictates of truth, and the teachings of science. Superstition must go. Let them worship as they will; every man can follow his own conscience, provided it does not interfere with sane reason or bid him act against the liberty of his fellow-men.

15) Arthur Schopenhauer in “The World as Will and Representation”

"Consider, for example, the Koran. This wretched book was sufficient to found a religion of the world, to satisfy the metaphysical need of innumerable millions of men for twelve hundred years, to become the foundation of their morality, and of no small contempt for death, and also to inspire them to bloody wars and most extended conquests. We find in it the saddest and the poorest form of Theism. Much may be lost through the translations ; but I have not been able to discover one single valuable thought in it."

16)  Konreraad Est (Belgian Historian)

“The Muslim conquests, down to the 16th century, were for the Hindus a pure struggle of life and death. Entire cities were burnt down and the populations massacred, with hundreds of thousands killed in every campaign, and similar numbers deported as slaves. Every new invader made (often literally) his hills of Hindus skulls. As a contribution to research on the quantity of the Islamic crimes against humanity, we may mention that the Indian (subcontinent) population decreased by 80 million between 1000 (conquest of Afghanistan) and 1525 (end of Delhi Sultanat)” -

Quotes of famous Muslims

Louis Farrakhan (1997, in Harlem):

"A decree of death has been passed on America. The judgment of God has been rendered, and she must be destroyed."

Muammar Kaddafi (1997, after meeting with Louis Farrakhan):

"We are used to facing the United States as a fortress from the outside. Now we are finding a breach to penetrate the country (the U.S.) and confront it from within."

Al-Akhbar, Egypt’s second-most influential newspaper, in 2001:

"Our thanks go to the late Hitler, who wrought in advance the vengeance of the Palestinians upon the most despicable villains on the face of the earth. However, we rebuke Hitler for the fact that the vengeance was insufficient."

Mustq Aksari (2001) – Al-Badr spokesman on CNN 8 days after 9/11:

"Islam must rule the world and until Islam does rule the world we will continue to sacrifice our lives."

King Ibn Saud (1937) – King of Saudi Arabia at the time:

"Verily, the word of Allah teaches us, and we implicitly believe it, that for a Muslim to kill a Jew, or for him to be killed by a Jew, ensures him immediate entry into Heaven and into the august presence of Allah."

Ayatollah Khomeini (1982):

"We are not afraid of economic sanctions or military intervention. What we are afraid of is Western universities."

Sa’id Raja’i Khorassani (1985), Iranian delegate to the UN:

“The very concept of human rights is a Judeo-Christian invention and inadmissible in Islam."

Muhammad al-Arifi (Saudi Cleric)

Saudi Muslim cleric Mohammed al-Arifi said: "Devotion to Jihad for the sake of Allah, and the desire to shed blood, to smash skulls and to sever limbs for the sake of Allah and in defense of His religion, is, undoubtedly, an honor for the believer."

Tripoli’s London Ambassador Abd al-Rahman to Thomas Jefferson & John Adams (1786) on “by what right do the Barbary States enslaved American seamen”

"It is written in the Quran that all Nations who should not have acknowledged their (Muslims) authority were sinners; that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners; and that every Mussulman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise."
