Islam Under Scrutiny by Ex-Muslims

US Congress Passes First Ever Resolution on Forgotten Jewish Refugees from Arab Countries

As Arab States attacked Israel the next day after it was created under an UN mandate, the Arab world unleashed violence against their Jewish citizens. As a result, nearly 800,000 Jews from Arab world left their homes, assets and belongings behind to take refuge in newly created Israeli. We hear so much about the 600,000 Arabs, who left Israeli territory left during the Arab attack—some willing to avoid casualties from the attack of Arab army and others, evicted by Israeli forces. How many of us have heard about those 800,000 Jewish refugees kicked out from Arab countries? The US congress has finally taken the first step in recognizing the injustices inflicted on this Arab pogrom of Jews. -- MA Khan.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC (April 1, 2008) - In what may be the beginning of a dramatic shift in United States policy, the U.S. Congress passed House Resolution 185, which grants first-time-ever recognition to Jewish refugees from Arab countries.

Prior to the adoption of H.Res.185, all Resolutions on Middle East refugees referred only to Palestinians. This Resolution affirms that the U.S. government will now recognize that all victims of the Arab-Israeli conflict must be treated equally. It further urges that the President and U.S. officials participating in Middle East discussions to ensure that any reference to Palestinian refugees must: "also include a similarly explicit reference to the resolution of the issue of Jewish refugees from Arab countries."

The Resolution was introduced by Reps. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Joseph Crowley (D-NY) and Mike Ferguson (R-NJ). With the passing of this Resolution, Rep. Nadler stated, "We believe that as a member of the Quartet, and in light of the U.S. central and indispensable role in promoting Middle East 'just peace', the U.S. must reaffirm that it embraces a just and comprehensive approach to the issue of Middle East refugees."

Jewish Refugees from Yemen

Rep. Joseph Crowley said, "The world needs to understand that it is not just the Arabs and it's not just the Palestinians in the Middle East, but also Jewish people who themselves were dispossessed of their possessions and their homes, and were victims of terrorist acts. These are people who lived in Middle Eastern communities not for decades, but for thousands of years." Rep. Crowley added that the Resolution will, "bring light upon an issue that has been swept under the carpet."

"Discussions of Middle Eastern refugees invariably focus exclusively-and shortsightedly-on the plight of those of Palestinian descent," said Rep. Ros-Lehtinen. "Far fewer people are aware of the injustice faced by Jewish refugees from Arab lands and Iran. Many Jews saw their communities, which had existed vibrantly for centuries systematically dismantled. They lost their resources, their homes, and their heritage sites, fleeing in the face of persecution, pogroms, revolutions and brutal dictatorships."

Rep. Mike Ferguson said that there was very strong bi-partisan support for this issue which recognizes, "the plight of hundreds of thousands of Jewish refugees who were displaced from countries in the Middle East, Northern Africa and all around the Persian Gulf." Congressmen Ferguson acknowledged that the U.N. has never recognized Jewish refugees, and that this,"is completely unacceptable and long over due, and this is one of the things this Resolution seeks to address."

Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice-President of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations commented, "the failure during all these years to recognize other refugees, compounded the indignation and the suffering and the deprivation of Jews in Arab countries. There was a systematic process of expulsion which the Arab governments engaged in." He added that the Resolution is not an obstacle to peace. "It is a distortion to talk only of one refugee population, as that would undermine the ultimate outcome of any negotiations. The Congressional action will educate a generation that know too little about the other refugees."

The passing of this Resolution is the strongest U.S. declaration on the rights of Jewish refugees that were displaced from Arab countries. H.Res.185 underscores the fact that Jews living in Arab countries suffered human rights violations, were uprooted from their homes, and were made refugees.

Stanley Urman, Executive Director of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries stated that, "Congress has restored truth to the Middle East narrative, by recommending equitable treatment of all Middle East refugees. Only in this fashion can there be movement from truth to justice, from justice to reconciliation, and from reconciliation to peace - between and among all peoples and states in the region."

Underscoring the importance of the Resolution, Rep. Nadler added, "When the Middle East peace process is discussed, Palestinian refugees are often addressed. However, Jewish refugees outnumbered Palestinian refugees, and their forced exile from Arab lands must not be omitted from public discussion on the peace process. It is simply not right to recognize the rights of Palestinian refugees without recognizing the rights of Jewish refugees."

High time. One million Jews lived in the Middle East at the turn of the century. Today, less than five thousand remain. Their plight has been ignored by the international community. In 1948, there were thirty-six thousand Jews living in Libya. Today, there are none. During the 1967 war between Israel and her Arab neighbors, mobs took to the streets and shouted, “Edbah el Yehud!” — “Slaughter the Jews!” Jews have been an indigenous people of the Middle East for over 2,500 years. On the basis of race and religion, Arab regimes subjected Jews to arbitrary arrest, confiscation of property and expulsions. This is fully documented in this report by Justice for Jews from Arab Countries. The UNHCR has ruled that Jews fleeing from Arab countries were ‘bona fide’ refugees, victims of the Arab-Israeli conflict.Dr. Diene, your report envisions a future of tolerance and equality. Applying the principles you set forth, we trust you will examine the actions of Libya and other Middle Eastern countries that forced out their Jewish minorities. Like in South Africa, only the acknowledgment of truth and history will lead to reconciliation.Thank you, Mr. President.

It is very heartening that the world could see,as to how,the Jewish people suffered in the Muslim Arab lands. When the late Archbishop Runcci visited Serevjo,he asked the local Bishop,as to why they hated the Muslims so much.He replied:If you had lived under the Muslims for six hundred years,You would have the same sentiments. You can live besides Muslims ,but you can not live with them ,he told the British Archbishop.Israel has found out that you can not even live beside them.Look at the behaviour of Muslim Arabs of Gaza Strip and West bank [ which is actually Judea and Samaria ],which have always been part of Israel. If the Muslim Arabs have a claim over West bank,They Should hand back Madina back to the Jewishn People, from where they were expelled by Mohammad .Muslims Arabs or Non-Arabs are most unreasonable people to deal with. They believe :WHAT EVER IS THINE IS MINE AND WHAT EVER IS MINE IS ALREADY MINE :How can you amicably deal with such unreasonable people. The Muslim Arabs should be pushed back into Jordan,Where they belong and let the Jewish and Christian Arabs Occupy the West bank.

*Quran on Jews: Quran is the only non-Jewish scripture in the world where Jews have been honored and protected in so many verses [2:40; 2:47; 2:122; 3:113-115; 10:93; 20:47; 20:80; 44:30-32; 45:16; etc.], and they have also been offered salvation if they follow their own scriptures [2:62; 5:69; 5:65-66; 22:17; etc.]. *Quran on Christians: Quran is the only non-Christian scripture in the world where Jesus Christ and Mary have been honored with very high regard [3:42 and Chapter 19 on Mary], good Christians have been praised [5:65-66; 5:82] and they have also been offered salvation if they follow their own scriptures [2:62; 5:69; 5:65-66; 22:17; etc.]. #Verse 3:28 and 5:51 address to terrorist/extremist/intolerant Jews and Christians, not ALL. See 5:57-59 and 60:8-9 for clarification. ****Majority Christians do not follow the true teachings of Jesus. For example: Jesus himself never claimed to be God or the begotten Son of God; He never preached absurd Trinity; He never told his followers to worship him; In fact, he used to pray to God; and so on.

*Judaism: The word 'Bible' is not in the Bible. Moses never preached any religion by the name of 'Judaism'. The word 'Judaism' doesn't even exist in the Bible. If that is the case then where did the names like 'Judaism' and 'Bible' come from? And what religion did Moses preach? If it was not Islam (Peace and Submission to God) then what is? *Christianity: Jesus didn't have any idea about the book call 'New Testament'! He never preached any religion by the name of 'Christianity'. The word 'Christianity' doesn't exist anywhere in the Bible or the New Testament. Even Jesus never heard the word 'Jesus' during his lifetime! He never preached absurd Trinity! The word 'Trinity' doesn't exist in the New Testament. Jesus himself never claimed to be God or the begotten Son of God. It is also an absurdity. He never told his followers to worship him. In fact, he used to pray to God. Where did the words like 'Christianity' and 'Trinity' come from then? And what religion did Jesus preach? If it was not Islam (Peace and Submission to God) then what is? *Hinduism: The name 'Rig-Veda' is not in the Rig-Veda. The name 'Bhagavad-Gita' cannot be found in the Bhagavad-Gita. The names 'Hindu', 'Hinduism' and 'Sanatana Dharma' do not exist in Vedas and Bhagavad-Gita. Ram and Krishna never preached any religion by the name of 'Hinduism' or 'Sanatana Dharma' either. None of them directly claimed to be the Creator of the Universe in human form. It is also an absurdity. A human cannot be the Creator of the Universe! Ram didn't write Ramayana. Similarly, Krishna didn't write Mahabharata and Bhagavad-Gita. So, Bhagavad-Gita is not the direct word of Krishna. Somebody else wrote it in his (Krishna's) name. The concept of 'Avatar' (God in human/animal form?) and 'Samsara' (cycles of birth and death) do not exist in the Vedas. So, where did the terms like 'Hindu', 'Hinduism', 'Sanatana Dharma', 'Bhagavad-Gita', etc. come from? And what religion did Ram and Krishna preach? *On the other hand, Quran is the only self-referenced Book in the world where the names like 'Quran', 'Islam' and 'Muslim' have been mentioned [2:185; 4:82; 5:3; 2:128; 2:131; 22:78; etc.]. Muhammad did indeed claim to be a Messenger of God - a logical and rational claim. He indeed preached a religion by the name of 'Islam' (Peace and Submission to God). Quran was also written down during his lifetime and under his supervision. #Now, for the sake of argument, if all the religious scriptures are considered to be divine, then Islam will be the only divine Religion in the world [Quran 3:19; 3:85]. This is the fact and reality - believe it or not! There is no compulsion in belief and religion [Quran 2:256; 109:6; 6:104; 18:29; 10:99; 17:15; 76:3; etc.].

You are a muslim and your knowledge about Hinduism and its scriptures is zero. The word Hindu came into vogue because of Persians who could not pronounce the word Sindhu ( one of the sacred rivers of India). Followed by muslims the word stuck since our religion had no name and is believed to be Sanatana meaning eternal-that which has no beginning or end. This Sanatana Dharma was not founded by a single person just as in other religions. It, our religion, resulted from a flow of divine thoughts from time to time and continues to be so. Therefore, it is eternal. Neither Lord Rama or Lord Krishna ever gave a name to their philosophy which is centered on good living and ways to achieve salvation, God realisation.. Just as a wruter gives a title to his work Veda Vyas who wrote Bhagwat Gita, as told by Lord Krishna, called it Bhagwat Gita meaning Lord's Song. Similarly Rigveda and other vedas were named after they were composed. So Sanatana Dharma is a continuous effort to address to follow righteous path. While the central philosy remains immutable rules like how one should behave in a society like the clothes he wears, of the food one eats kept on vchanging and there was never any resistance to stick to the ancient. To keep the human species propagating and at the same time to pursue spirituality Four Ashramas were advised. The. brahmacharya, grihasta, vanaprastha and sanyasa. Brahmacharya was a state of observing celebecy and devotion to learning. Grihastha to get married and rear children , Vanaprastha-when ones children have grown up and settled to leave the society and indulge in spiritual pursuits and lastly Sanyasa when one finally gives up all attachments material and emotional. In modern times the change from these ashramas are accepted and the parents are free to live with the children till the end. Even entering into sanyasa is no more observed by a large section of the society. This flexibility in our dharma is unique. The grihastha, since he cannot renounce the material world has to observe certain rituals to purify his thoughts from time to time. What you see as idol worship and visiting temple is one, Since man is considered to be the most precious of all creation God is visualised in human form to worship (unlike Old testament where it says God created man in his own image),Before an idol , the devotee doesnot see the stone or metal of which it is made. He simply concentrates on Him believing God is residing in the idol. He requests God to come and reside in the idol before he starts any ritual.Idol worship as you call it is not a necessity for a sanyasi -ascetic. The grihastha continues to be with God while enjoying material life. Any deviation from all these goes unnoticed and there is no word like blasphemy in this religion. Even an atheist is allowed to lead a normal life without being ostracised. One has a total freedom to express thoughts and freedom of action so long as he doesnot act in an antisocial manner. There is no compulsion or any dogma as you find in all the three semetic religions. Thats how sanatana dharma has survived umpteen number of persecution by muslims and christians who dont have such a freedom. Dont you forget that this religion goes back to hoary past and is a natural religion as nature would want us to follow, this is a religion where God is worshipped with love and not out of fear.
