- The crimes, their Quranic basis and a critical discussion
1. Crime: Rebellion, physical or verbal, against the Muslim leader

YUSUFALI: The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter
The punishment for this crime is Death, cutting of hands and feet or exile. Modern day society has different classification of such behavior against the state. Much of such behavior is considered no more than civil disobedience. The US first amendment guarantees free speech. In some instances there is some jail time involved. But in general such behavior is tolerated by a modern democratic state. An Islamic state, if applying Sharia law, will react in a mean-spirited way to control the civil liberties of its citizens.
2. Crime: Apostasy (a Muslim leaving Islam)

The punishment for apostasy is death. There is a three days waiting period to allow the person to come back to the fold of Islam. My view is that this is not a crime at all. People should be free to adopt other religions or non-religions as they like. Yet, thanks to Allah, this is a crime in Islam. And, as a bonus, it is punishable by death!
3. Crime: Stealing (even if very small amount like 25 cents)

YUSUFALI: As to the thief, Male or female, cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of example, from Allah, for their crime: and Allah is Exalted in power.
The punishment for stealing is to cut off the hand at the wrist. This law shows the barbarity of Sharia law and the barbarity of some of the Quranic teachings. Bear in mind that all four Islamic schools of thought have to accept such teachings. They are in the Quran after all. It is clear that modern laws are superior to Sharia law. The punishments for stealing increase gradually as the amount stolen increases. This approach is more realistic than the barbarity of Sharia law.
4. Crime: Murder (killing someone not in War situations)

YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! the law of equality is prescribed to you in cases of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the woman for the woman. But if any remission is made by the brother of the slain, then grant any reasonable demand, and compensate him with handsome gratitude, this is a concession and a Mercy from your Lord. After this whoever exceeds the limits shall be in grave penalty.
The punishment is a life for a life. However a Muslim cannot be
killed for murdering a non Muslim, a woman, or a slave. Thank God
for good Abe who said that all men are created equal. Well, not in

people. A Muslim has a royal blood in him, while a non Muslims and
women and slaves are the untouchables! How unjust can a religion be

Conclusion
Sharia law interferes with basic human liberties. It is also evident that some of the Sharia laws based on the Quran are barbaric and unjust. A true Muslim any where has to accept such laws because they are Quranicaly based. Sharia laws are stagnant and came to us 1400 years ago from barbaric Arabia. It is time for Muslims to move on.
Islamic law is not a suitable system of crime and punishment in civilized society. Islam considers apostasy a crime. Apostasy is not a crime, regardless of whether Islam likes it or not. It is a basic right that humans should enjoy in modern day society. Islamic Sharia wants to cut a person’s hand if he/she steals regardless of the amount stolen. Stealing is clearly a case where a gradual system of punishment should be available to allow punishment for varying amounts of theft. Also, Sharia Law is unjust. It favors Muslims over other groups of people in society. The golden rule that promotes respecting others and treating them as equals is a thing of the past if Sharia law is in charge. No one in his right mind should allow that barbarity of Islamic law in today’s social order.

An important question: is the Quran the Word of God or is it a fabrication of a Man. Thus, is the Quran the truth or a fiction and a hoax? The jihadists use many verses from the Quran as the Main source of justification for their violence, mayhem and murders. There, the question is clearly given on pages 145 through 157 in THE ISLAMIC INVASION by Robert Morey in which he wrote a section on the Quran with its self-contradictions. Just two of the many he cited are the following “The Quran differs on whether a day is a thousand years or fifty thousand years in God’s sight’ and “Who was first to believe? Abraham or Moses [Sura 6:14 versus 7:143]? The above is inconsistent and illogical. Further, Morey wrote about “The fact that Judaism and Christianity broke up into different sects was used in the Quran to prove that they are not of God [Suras 30:20-32. 42:13, 14]. Yet Islam has broken up into many warring sects and therefore cannot be true if the Quran is right.” Moreover, Morey in his book shows many more contradictions and absurdities in the Quran, there are and how Muhammad incorporated extra Biblical and Jewish folklore along with pre-Islamic Arabian myth and parts of Zoroastrian and Hindu stories into the Quran. Furthermore, the Muslims claim that “the Quran is the direct, literal word of God unmodified in any way by the Prophet who uttered them at the bidding of God.” Nevertheless, in the book UNVEILING ISLAM by Ergun Mehmet and Eethi Caner has shown that the Quran was modified in the following account on pages 45. “Muhammad felt the need to improve on the words of Allah, since he changed Allah’s wisdom for his own on several occasions. A hadith tells of the nonchalant emendations of Muhammad:’ On a number of occasions he [a scribe] had, with the Prophet’s consent changed the closing words of verses. For example, when the prophet had said ‘God is mighty and wise ‘ Adbollah b. Abi Sarh suggested writing down ‘Knowing and wise’ and the Prophet answered that there was no objection. Having observed a succession of changes of this type, Adbollah renounced Islam on the grounds that revelations, if from God could not be changed at the prompting of a scribe such as himself. After his apostasy he went to Mecca and joined the Qorayshites.’ Other writers reveal that later Muhammad and his people did go war with the Qorayshites and he personally killed Abdollah. Obviously Abdollah knew too much and Muhammad wanted Abdollah’s knowledge to die with him.” In conclusion, the Quran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax.

The great thing for humanity is that western values are winning and are spreading to all corners of the world. Muslims may not admit it but they are now going to great length to "translate" their holly teachings in such a way as to be compatible with western values. A Muslim will for example tell you that the hand of a thieve can not be amputated unless and until the society is 100% Islamic and 1000000000 have witnessed the crime. Clearly impossible conditions. A Muslim will also tell you that a woman can not be stoned to death unless and until 1000000000 good Muslims give evidence that they have seen it with their own eyes and then only Muslims without sins can administer the stoning. Again impossible conditions. The list goes on and on. It all boils down to the fact that the Muslims are abandoning their great faith in droves without knowing it. In a hadith, the prophet said the hand of the thief should be cut off for a quarter of a dinar or more ( I took the liberty of saying a quarter of a dinar is like a quarter of a dollar). Shalom - I find it hard to accept that the "end goal" of Muslim fundementalism is anything other than world domination. Leaders of this ideology have publicly stated as much. Must Read - I like a good romp just like everyone else. What scares me is that I think your analysis is correct.... perhaps that's why jihadists are the young kids that have just reached sexual maturity. Sharia law is not really law. Our legal system (U.S.) is based on the equality of individuals - that is, no person is above the law. The richest and the poorest of our society are both equal and responsible to the law. The duality of Islam is manifest in Sharia law. Crimes for some of humanity are not crimes for other parts of humanity. Individuals are subject to "justice" that first take into account their personal beliefs, sex, and position in society. God's law are for gods. Human laws are made by, for and about humans. It is a pretty clear choice.

Note that Hadith number 780 gives additional evidence regarding the point you raised. Peace Hands must be cut off for theft The Quran says: 5:38 Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are male or female, as punishment for what they have done-a deterrent from God: God is almighty and wise. 39 But if anyone repents after his wrongdoing and makes amends, God will accept his repentance: God is most forgiving and merciful. (Haleem) Volume 8, Book 81, Number 779: Narrated 'Aisha: The Quraish people became very worried about the Makhzumiya lady who had committed theft. They said, "Nobody can speak (in favor of the lady) to Allah's Apostle and nobody dares do that except Usama who is the favorite of Allah's Apostle. " When Usama spoke to Allah's Apostle about that matter, Allah's Apostle said, "Do you intercede (with me) to violate one of the legal punishment of Allah?" Then he got up and addressed the people, saying, "O people! The nations before you went astray because if a noble person committed theft, they used to leave him, but if a weak person among them committed theft, they used to inflict the legal punishment on him. By Allah, if Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad committed theft, Muhammad will cut off her hand.!" Volume 8, Book 81, Number 780: Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet said, "The hand should be cut off for stealing something that is worth a quarter of a Dinar or more."
