The Meaning of Nikah

The definition of "Nikah" is the penetration of one thing by
another. Examples would be as in saying the seed in the soil. It
also can mean the entwining of two objects one with the other. An
example would be saying the trees (embrace) each other, meaning they
entwined with one another.

Linguistically, "Nikah" means embracing or penetrating. When it is pronounced "Nokh" it refers to a woman's vagina. It is mainly used in the context of "sexual intercourse." When it was used in reference to marriage it is because sex is a necessity in marriage. Al Fassi said,"If someone says a certain man (N) a certain woman, it means he married her, and if he says a man (N) his wife, it means he has sexual intercourse with her." The word can also be used metaphorically as with expressions: the rain (N) the ground, or, the sleep (N) the eyes, or, the seed (N) the soil, or, the pebble (N) the camel's hoof. When it was used in the context of marriage it is because sexual intercourse is the purpose of marriage. It is necessary in marriage to "taste the honey" (an Islamic expression meaning literal intercourse). This is the how the word has generally been used in the Quran except in the verse that says, "Make trial of orphans until they reach the age of (N)" Sura 4: 6. In that instance it pertains to the age of puberty. The Shafia and Hanafi schools of jurisprudence assert that the word nikah when used as a fact conveys that sexual intercourse has occurred. And when used as a figure of speech it denotes marriage. The reason for this variance is because it is offensive to mention the word "intercourse," so a metonymic word is used to substitute it.
Conclusion:
There is a word in Arabic that correctly translates "marriage."
It is "zawag." However, the word "Nikah, word," which is more
commonly used in translations of the Quran to mean marriage, carries
entirely different implications. "Nikah" implies that the emphasis
in the relationship between a man and his wife solely sexual. This
degrades marriage. It is another proof about how Islam looks down on
marriage and the role women play in it. It enforces the Islamic
concept that a wife's primary role in Islam is that of a sex object,
created to satisfy the husband's sexual appetites. On the other
hand, marriage in the Christian tradition is a union between a
husband and his wife based on mutual love, respect and equality. It
is two people of the opposite sex becoming one, not just for sex,
but to be the nucleus for a family that shares ALL of life's
challenges. While sex is an important part of marriage, it is tragic
to consider it primary. Marriage is a life-long relationship that is
supposed to lovingly endure beyond the perimeters of sex.
Is it then a wonder that the Quran is laden with sexually explicit verses, inducing its followers to sex with slaves and with those women they are expected to capture in their wars with the non-Muslims?

Islamic marriages are just quickly drawn up contracts that allow a man to impregnate a woman. They are rarely, if at all, based on love and respect. Divorce in Islam is taken so lightly too!! I know of Christians who have been married for over 50 years!! That is a proper marriage, not the ones Muslims do.

In Islam when you marry a woman you share with her your life, your wealth. Islam does not degrade women instead uplifts her. Islam does not encourage the wife to be dressed from head to toe and displayed in public like a commodity like all of you who live in the west. While married to a woman, although Islam permits (that does not mean all should marry) a man to marry up to four wives but tells a man he has to take care of his wives equally. To Nisar Ahmad, Face the facts, in Islam, nikah is a civil contract, while in Christianity, Hinduism and in many other religions, it is a religious sacrament. Nisar, you know muslim wives are subjugated, these six grounds for discrimination suffered by muslim women come readily to mind:- Vis a vis muslim men, muslim women are discriminated in 6 clear areas: (1) Man can have upto 4 wives, a woman cannot have multiplte husbands. (2) Men can divorce their wives by uttering the word 'talaq' thrice without giving any reason, a woman cannot divorce her husband on her own, no matter how deceitful, lecherous and unfaithful he is ! (The only recourse she has is the long-winded and cumbersome process of 'Khula' divorce, for which she may apply in a Sharia court; even if she wins, she loses her 'mehr' amount, as well as custody of the children. (3) Men may have Christian/Jewish spouses, women are not allowed to have such spouses. (4) The Quran gives the right to a man of beating his wife if he suspects 'rebellion', a wife has no such right, no matter how deserving the husband is of a good thrashing ! (5) In Sharia Law, a man's witness is equal to that of two women ... a clear inequality (6) From a deceased parents' property, the Sharia stipulates a brother will inherit twice what his sister will inherit. There are many other instances of violation of women's rights (such as wearing the burqa, be ever ready for sex at her husband's demand, etc.), yet muslim women and (esp. white) female converts are supposed to forever applaud, admire and praise the noble Allah for the righteous way in which He has drawn up the rules !! Because 'not one word of the Quran' can be altered or modernised, such inequities have to remain till Islam exists. However much Islamists attempt to cover up for the Quran's defiencies (by a play on words and by pointing out to questionable rules in other religions), muslim men and women will have to endure inequities and inhumane edicts and suffer the consequences of diminished progress silently. Humanism, inc. women's rights, will never improve in muslim societies till, as the Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen rightly says, 'the Quran undergoes wholesale revision'; or till Islam is finally abolished.

In addition to having sex with his wives ( he may have upto 4 at a time ); if he fancies another female, he simply divorces one of his 4 wives(remember, he has to assign no reason as to why he is divorcing his wife !) and marries this new female; in this way he can keep on replenishing his stock of women he fancies ! Besides, he is also allowed to have sex with his female slaves and with those who are his 'right hand possessions' ! This last reason is used by muslim moulvis to have sex with Thai women in Bangkok ! Finally, remember, in Europe/USA, there might be sex on 'every street', but this is by mutual consent, not by religious sanction as in Islam ! European/American females enjoy equal rights in matters of sex !!

If marriage in the Christian tradition is a union between a husband and his wife based on mutual love, respect and equality. Why is the Christian tradition not promoting the ban on lesbian and homosexual marriages? Again the emphasis must be made clear, Allah is not the god that created Adam and Eve. Islam wants to picture it that way. You are surely confused here, Adam and Eve were exercising their freewill in the Garden of Eden. They choose to disobey God by eating the fruit of knowledge of good and evil. By their sin of disobedience the curse of death is upon them and it follows upon humanity. Man now has to labor in order to earn his living. Nature is cursed and there is now diseases, decay and other abnormalities in nature and of course death, the ultimate penalty of sin. But God had a plan of restoration and that plan of restoration is none other than Jesus Christ. Believing in Jesus Christ will make man right with God. His death at the cross is the payment for penalty of sin of all mankind. Eternal life is open for those who follow Jesus Christ. Had Adam and Eve obeyed God, you and I and all of us will be living in a perfect world, a paradise. But that will come in Jesus Christ second coming.
