Zakat, the fourth pillar of Islam, deals exclusively with wealth. What were the reasons that motivated Muhammad to copy this pagan practice, and impose it on Muslims as well as on non-Muslims. The Quran and hadiths reveal Allah's true intentions behind the imposing of Zakat. There are hundreds of hadiths that reveal the greed of Muhammad (behind the mask of his imaginary Allah), and his bandit Sahaba towards wealth and power. Muhammad accumulated wealth and annexed the neighboring territories by all kinds of crooked means. It is impossible to archive them all in an article. Evidences documenting Muhammad’s evil actions for obtaining wealth and power will requires volumes of books. This part of the series deals with how Muhammad obtained power, and how even the ruler of Rome, the superpower of his time, was afraid of this notorious mafia gang. Most of us don’t pay attention to the fact that our so-called ‘prophet’ was simply a king of Arabia. In this article, I will also list a few hadiths to reveal how a neglected shepherd boy became the king of Arabia.

The Quran says to Muhammad: “Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah. (Quran 33:21).

This article will give more than enough evidence regarding how beautiful Muhammad’s conducts were.

It is the general tendency of the theists of all faiths to believe that their brand of god and religion is the best. Muslims are staunchest in this belief. According to the Quran, the Islamic god Allah is the perfect model of ‘all knowing, merciful and the best’. There are numerous deceptive verses in the Quran that repeatedly point to the ‘superiority’ of Allah over other supposedly false gods. At the same time, numerous verses from the ‘merciful’ Allah urging Muslims to kill the infidels and plunder booty of non-Muslims are no more a secret to the readers of the Quran. If Allah Himself is so cruel and greedy, what else can one expect from his last, the best and the most beloved messenger?

The game of poor and orphaned shepherd-boy Muhammad's attaining wealth started at the age of 25 when he married a twice-widowed but rich entrepreneur named Khadijah, 15 years older than him. He never worked after marrying her and was waiting for her death in order to grab her all of her wealth. However, when she died about 25 years after their marriage and 10 years into his so-called prophetic mission, her wealth had nearly finished. But by that time, Muhammad had a devoted band of followers and desperate as he was, he transformed them into a gang of robbers for looting the wealth of the peaceful Arabs.

Proof that Muhammad and Sahaba were a gang of thieves and robbers, who looted others:

Al-Aqra' bin Habis said to the Prophet "Nobody gave you the pledge of allegiance but the ROBBERS OF THE PILGRIMS (i.e. THOSE WHO USED TO ROB THE PILGRIMS) from the tribes of Aslams, Ghifar, Muzaina." (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:56:719)

There is nothing spiritual in Islam. Islam is purely a political ideology behind the religious mask, just for Muhammad's grabbing power and plundering wealth.

‘I have been commanded to fight against people till they accept Islam’ – was the chant of Muhammad. The real meaning of the word ‘Islam’ in Muhammad’s dictionary is ‘the political power’ (wealth).

  • “…….pay zakat (wealth), pay the fifth from the booty (wealth), and the portion (wealth) of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his special portion (safi (wealth)), you will be under the protection of Allah and His Apostle." We then asked: Who wrote this document for you? He replied: The Apostle of Allah. (Abu Dawud 19:2993)
  • The Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and they establish prayer, and pay Zakat (tax) (wealth) and if they do it, their blood and property (wealth) are guaranteed protection on my behalf. (Sahih Muslim 1:33) (Sahih Al-Bukhari 1:8:387)

In these hadiths, Muhammad guaranteed protection of non-Muslims blood and property (wealth) from whom? Muhammad’s Allah not only forces his own creation by putting sword on their necks to obey him, but also need their money (wealth) for the survival of his apostle and his criminal gang.

Muhammad’s gang had become so notorious that the rulers of the region became concerned or even terrified. The small-time rulers, such as those of Bahrain or Oman, out of fear, extended their hands of friendly support and voluntarily offered to pay Jizya tax (wealth) to him after he sent threatening missives to them.

The King Dhu Yazan presented to the apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) a suit of clothes which he had purchased for thirty-three camels or thirty-three she-camels (wealth). He accepted it. (Abu Dawud 32:4023)

  1. “…………..I said to them, 'Verily, Ibn Abi Kabsha's (i.e. the Prophet's) affair has gained power. This is the King of Bani Al-Asfar fearing him." Abu Sufyan added, "By Allah, I remained low and was sure that his religion would be victorious till Allah converted me to Islam, though I disliked it "…………” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:52:191)
  2. ‘……… I said: Ibn Abu Kabsha (referring sarcastically to the Holy Prophet) has come to wield a great power. Lo! (even) the king of the Romans is afraid of him…….’ (Sahih Muslim 19:4380)
  3. ‘…….'The situation of Ibn Abu Kabsha (i.e. Muhammad) has become strong; even the king of Banu Al-Asfar is afraid of him…….” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 6:60:75)
  4. “………I said to my companions, 'The cause of Ibn Abi Kabsha has become conspicuous as the King of Bani Al-Asfar is afraid of him.' " (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:52:221)
  5. Even the ruler of Rome, the most powerful in the world at that time, had become concerned about the terror unleashed by the 'prophet of the religion of peace’:
  6. “……… Abu Sufyan then added, "When Heraclius had finished his speech and had read the letter, there was a great hue and cry in the Royal Court. So we were turned out of the court. I told my companions that the question of Ibn-Abi- Kabsha) (the Prophet Muhammad) has become so prominent that even the King of Bani Al-Asfar (Byzantine) is afraid of him. Then I started to become sure that he (the Prophet) would be the conqueror in the near future till I embraced Islam (i.e. Allah guided me to it)."…………..” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 1:1:6)

Why would the rulers from far away states fear a religious leader, that too the prophet of the 'religion of peace'?

Obtaining wealth was the prime object of the prophet and his companions. When Ali sent the looted gold (wealth) from Yemen to Muhammad at Medina, he (Muhammad) distributed it to the chiefs of some tribes. It was the usual practice of Muhammad to take the regional tribes in confidence by bribing their chiefs (wealth). The companions (Sahaba) of Muhammad supported him, not because of love or affection for him but only for the booty (wealth) that Muhammad bestowed on them. After all they were the disciples of their greedy master. On this occasion, the Quraish and Ansar companions became angry with Muhammad. And Muhammad appeased them by saying that he wanted to win over those chiefs and through them their ignorant people:

  • "The Apostle gave gifts (wealth) to those whose hearts were to be won over, notably the chiefs of the army, to win them and through them the people." (Ishaq:594; Sahih Muslim 5:2318-2319; Sahih Al-Bukhari 9:93:527)
  • "Allah's Apostle got property (wealth) and war prisoners and gave them to some people to the exclusion of others. The latter seemed to be displeased by that. The Prophet said, 'I give (wealth) to some people, lest they should deviate from Islam or lose patience.'" (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:53:373)
  • "The Prophet said, 'I give (wealth)to the Quraysh so that they will desire Islam, for they are nearer to their life of Ignorance and it is not strong in their hearts.'" (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:53:374)

Muhammad, from a shepherd boy, not only became the Sultan of the Arab land, but also with his deceptive prophesies made others believe that his own family and tribe alone was fit to rule the world. He favored the Quraish in justice and in the distribution of the looted booty so as to make them financially stronger.

“The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: If only one day of this world remained. Allah would lengthen that day (according to the version of Za'idah), till He raised up in it a man who belongs to me or to my family whose father's name is the same as my father's, who will fill the earth with equity and justice as it has been filled with oppression and tyranny (according to the version of Fitr). Sufyan's version says: The world will not pass away before the Arabs are ruled by a man of my family whose name will be the same as mine.” (Abu Dawud 36:4269)

“….. and the Ansar were assembled with Sad bin 'Ubada in the shed of Bani Saida. They said (to the emigrants). "There should be one 'Amir from us and one from you."…….., Then Abu Bakr spoke and his speech was very eloquent. He said in his statement, "We are the rulers and you (Ansars) are the ministers (i.e. advisers)," Hubab bin Al-Mundhir said, "No, by Allah we won't accept this. But there must be a ruler from us and a ruler from you." Abu Bakr said, "No, we will be the rulers and you will be the ministers, for they (i.e. Quarish) are the best family amongst the 'Arabs and of best origin…….” ( Sahih Al-Bukhari 5:57:19)

"When the Apostle learned that one of the Meccans had died in the battle, he said, 'Allah curses him.' (Because) He used to hate the Quraysh." (Ishaq:572)

“……Allah's Apostle saying, 'Authority of ruling (wealth) will remain with the Quraish, and whoever bears hostility to them, Allah will destroy him as long as they abide by the laws of the religion.'" (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:56:704)

Muhammad aware that he could not make each one of his tribesmen the Sultan of Arabia but could make them wealthy nobles so that they will control other tribes for him. The Arabic term ‘Sahaba’ denotes Muhammad’s companions, regardless of their Arab clan and tribes. The term ‘Sahaba’ is also one of the terms of Taqiya that are used as the usual deceptive doctrine in Islam. There are various terms used for non-Quraish Sahaba in Islamic scriptures for questioning Muhammad's justice. They are described as ‘bad boys’ without mentioning their names, but in various ‘titles’ – such as ‘a man, people, Ansar, Bedouin, a woman ………etc.

"The Prophet said, 'I give (wealth) to the Quraysh so that they will desire Islam, for they are nearer to their life of Ignorance and it is not strong in their hearts.'" (Bukhari 4:53:374)

"When Allah favored His Apostle with (wealth) the properties of the Hawazin tribe as Fai booty, he started giving to some of the Meccan men up to one-hundred camels each. Whereupon some Ansari said, 'May Allah forgive His Apostle! He is giving (wealth) to the Quraysh and leaving us out, in spite of the fact that our swords are still dripping with the blood of the infidels.' When Muhammad was informed of what they had said, he called for the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent. 'What is the statement which I have been informed, and that which you have said.' [He meant: "What did you say?"] The smart ones replied, 'O Allah’s Apostle! The wise ones did not say anything, but the youngsters said, "May Allah forgive His Apostle; he enriches (wealth) the Quraysh and leaves the Ansar poor, in spite of the fact that Ansar swords are still dribbling with the blood of the infidels..' The Prophet replied, 'I give them more (wealth) because they are still close to the period of Infidelity and have just recently embraced Islam. You should be pleased to see them becoming rich (wealthy).' The Ansar replied, 'Yes, O Allah’s Apostle, we are satisfied.'" (Sahih Al Bukhari 4:53:375, 378; Malik 58:58.2.11)

Muhammad was very concerned about the wealth that he gave to the Quraish. He wanted the Quraish men not to marry the women of other tribes, so that the wealth looted from the other tribes does not go back to them by means of intermarriages (officially). At the same time, he didn’t restricted his Quraish men to keep the women of other tribes as slaves to produce more slave children to be used in war fronts.

Abu Huraira reported: I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The women of the Quraish are good amongst the womenfolk. They ride camels and show affection to their children and zealously guard the WEALTH of their husbands. Abu Huraira said at the end of this narration that Mary, the daughter of Imran, never rode the camel. (Sahih Muslim 31:6137, 6139, 6140)

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "Amongst all those women who ride camels (i.e. Arabs), the ladies of Quraish are the best. They are merciful and kind to their off-spring and the best guardians of their husbands' properties (wealth).' (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:55:643)

Among his bandit Sahaba, the Medinan Ansar (the helpers), who had supported desperate Muhammad after being kicked out of Mecca, were the losers. To get their support in the beginning, he made them to believe that they will succeed him in power after his death. As he wished to make his son-in-law Ali his successor, he asserted to the Ansar later on that worldly wealth is nothing in comparison to gifts of the afterlife. Also time and again, he emphasized that the people of his Quraish clan were superior and fit to be rulers:

The Prophet said, "You people will be keen to have the authority of ruling which will be a thing of regret for you on the Day of Resurrection. What an excellent wet nurse it is, yet what a bad weaning one it is!" (Sahih Al-Bukhari 9:89:262)

“…….He (Muhammad) said: You (Ansar) were saying that the man (Muhammad) has been swayed by tenderness towards his family and love for his city. Do you know what my name is? I am Muhammad, the bondman of God and His Messenger. (He repeated this thrice.) I left my native place for the take of Allah and joined you. So I will live with you and die with you. Now the Ansar said: By God, we said (that) only out of our greed for Allah and His Messenger. He said: Allah and His Apostle testify to you and accept your apology.” (Sahih Muslim 19:4396)

Muhammad even snatched lands (wealth) from the Ansar and used as a place for pasturing the camels that he had grabbed while raiding non-Muslim tribes. He also collected Zakat (wealth) compulsorily from the Ansar in the name of Allah.

“……….By Allah, these people think that I have been unjust to them. This is their land (wealth), and during the pre-Islamic period, they fought for it and they embraced Islam (willingly) while it was in their possession. By Him in Whose Hand my life is! Were it not for the animals (in my custody) which I give to be ridden for striving in Allah's Cause, I would not have turned even a span of their land into a Hima." (Sahih Al-Bukhari 4:52:292; Malik 60.1.1)

It was the usual practice of the prophet of the “religion of peace” to make surprise-attack on non-Muslim settlements at the last hours of the night while they are in sound sleep. After butchering the males, Muhammad used to divide the helpless captured women of those settlements among his bandits to rape and ravish them. Muhammad also used to rape the best amongst them, often the young wife or daughter of the chief of that settlement. When Muhammad attacked and subdued Khayber, the richest settlement of Arabia, as per his usual practice, he would have just killed its king Kinanah. But the ill-fated and responsible Kinanah had refused to reveal the whereabouts of the hidden treasure (wealth) that belonged to his people. At that, Muhammad became mad and ordered his bandits (Sahaba) to torture him until he would tell them the location of the treasure (wealth). Kinanah was tortured by setting fire on his chest, but he refused to reveal the whereabouts of the hidden treasure. At length, the treasure was found. Thereafter, Muhammad beheaded Kinanah and raped his 17-year-old wife Safiyah.

"The Prophet gave orders concerning Kinanah to Zubayr, saying,'Torture him until you root out and extract what he has (wealth). So Zubayr kindled a fire on Kinanah's chest, twirling it with his firestick until Kinanah was near death. Then the Messenger gave him to Maslamah, who beheaded him." (Tabari VIII:122, Ishaq:515)

Given it is impossible to narrate the numerous incidents pointing to Muhammad’s endless greed for wealth and power in an article, to conclude this part, I’m adding few more unholy raids of Muhammad from among many similar hadiths that were intended for looting the wealth of his victims:

  1. "Allah said, 'No Prophet before Muhammad took booty (wealth) from his enemy nor prisoners for ransom (wealth).' Muhammad said, 'I was made victorious (wealthy) with terror. The earth was made a place for me to clean. Booty (wealth) was made lawful for me. (Ishaq:326)
  2. "When the Apostle looked down on Khaybar, he told his companions, 'O ALLAH, LORD OF THE DEVILS and what into terror they throw, and Lord of the winds and what they winnow, we ask Thee for the booty (wealth) of this town and its people. Forward in the name of Allah.' He used to say this of every town he raided." (Ishaq:510)
  3. "So Muhammad began seizing their herds and their property (wealth) bit by bit. He conquered home by home (wealth). The Messenger took some people captive, including Safiyah and her two cousins. The Prophet chose Safiyah for himself." (Tabari VIII:116, Ishaq 511)
  4. "We have been dealt a situation from which there is no escape. You have seen what Muhammad has done. Arabs have submitted to him and we do not have the strength to fight. You know that no herd is safe from him. And no one even dares go outside for fear of being terrorized." (Tabari IX:42)
  5. "The Prophet had their men killed, their children and woman taken captive." (Sahih Al- Bukhari: 5:59:512)
  6. "After the Messenger had finished with the Khaybar Jews, Allah cast terror into the hearts of the Jews in Fadak when they received news of what Allah had brought upon Khaybar. Fadak became the exclusive property (wealth) of Allah's Messenger." (Tabari VIII:129)
  7. "When Allah's Apostle fought or raided people, we raised our voices saying, 'Allahu-Akbar! Allahu-Akbar! (Sahih Al-Bukhari 5:59:516)

To shut the murmurings of the Arabs about Muhammad’s greed, the most merciful and most compassionate imaginary Allah ‘revealed’ a verse, urging that Muhammad should not only concentrate on looting, but to kill his victims as much as he can:

"Allah said, 'A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.'" (Quran 8:67; Ishaq:327)

Conclusion: I’m asking to my Muslim brethren, whether they find any message of spirituality in any of the incidents described in the above hadiths? For me too, it was very hard to digest these facts when I first read these hadiths in my life. Muhammad was absolutely a greedy leader of murderous robbery gang and nothing else.

There are a lot more to learn about Muhammad’s and his companion’s greed, which will be discussed in the next part of this article.
