One of the criticisms of the anti-Islamic protests in the U.S. is that the protesters never mention any of the good things that are done by Arabs or Muslims. Actually, they have tried to show some balance, but there is not much to commend. Here is how Arabs and Muslims measure up based on some generally accepted international standards:

Peace

Muslims represent 23 percent of the world’s population, yet they are participants in 84 percent of the armed conflicts. Source: www.religioustolerance.org/curr_war.htm

Contributions to Society

Eight hundred Nobel Prizes have been awarded to individuals since 1895. Of those, only six were given to Arabs. While Arabs constitute 5 percent of the world’s population, their share of Nobel Prizes was only ¾ of one percent. Muslims, who represent 23 percent of the world’s population, were awarded only 1.4 percent of the awards.

surah baqarah (cow), prophet-muhammad-magical-cowThe Quran tries to bluff anyone who doubts that it is the verbal word of God: “If you doubt what We have revealed to you, ask those who have read the Scriptures before you.” (Surah 10:94)

If this were an honest statement, why the distribution of the Bible is banned in the following countries according to Gideons International:

  1. Afghanistan,

  2. Algeria,

  3. China (People's Republic),

  4. Comoros,

  5. Djibouti,

Genocide in Four Horrific Phases

  • Fatwah to massacre unbelievers – Once the Ottoman Empire entered World War I with the Germany, the Islamic Caliphate (Shaykh al-Islam Ürgüplü Hayri) issued a fatwah in November, 1914, calling on Muslims throughout the Empire to engage in jihad against their enemies. “The massacre of unbelievers who rule over us whether they are found in public or private places is now our duty, as it is said in Allah’s words, ‘Take than and kill them wherever you find them.’”

  • Arrest and Assassination of Armenian leaders – On April 24, 1915, the Ottoman Minister of the Interior Talaat Pasha ordered the arrest of 235 to 270 Christian Armenian leaders of Constantinople -- clergymen, physicians, editors, journalists, lawyers, teachers, politicians, and others. Arrests continued until 2,345 Armenian notables were detained, and eventually they were all deported or assassinated for the crime of being Christians. None of them had any political or subversive connections.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali makes a compelling case for why Islam is incompatible with 21st Century realities in her new book, Heretic – Why Islam Needs Reformation Now. Her identification of the five principal Islamic flaws is well-documented and is also supported by her own personal journey as a former Muslim. Her book deserves to be read by both Muslims and non-Muslims because of her clear articulation of the failures of Islam.

Her “five theses” against Islam include 1) holding the Quran as God’s immutable word and Muhammad’s deeds as infallible; 2) placing more importance on the afterlife than the here-and-now; 3) holding Sharia Law superior to man-made laws; 4) the obligation of Muslims to command the right and forbid the wrong among their own family and community; and 5) the primacy of jihad (holy war) as a religious obligation. However, by her own admission, these principles are the glue that has held the community of Muslims together for 1,400 years. “Until Islam can do what Judaism and Christianity have done – question, critique, interpret, and ultimately modernize its holy scripture – it cannot free Muslims from a host of anachronistic and at times deadly beliefs and practices.”(p. 90)
